Slacking the month away

You know after my boot camp vacation I had great plans for restarting work on the house and I have done absolutely nothing. No idea where the time has gone. Thinking that being cold as hell, snow on the ground, furnace running, I would hibernate and just plow ahead with the renovations. But no! The holidays, work, and everything else spinning around me I did nothing but think about doing something.

I did have an addition to the family, Molly!!!!

She is 7 years old, and retired. I got Molly from the same kennel as Sugar (aka Princess). She is a good old girl and spends a good 23 hours a day sleeping. She LOVES her pillow and tennis balls. Did I mention she LOVES her pillow? Anyway Molly has done her duty at producing pups and needed a good home. Molly has no real people skills, don't know how to walk on a leash, took a few days to get the idea that we pee and poop outside and not in the house, little things like that. But she is a good girl and only wants some attention and love. We have lots of that here! Sugar is playing the spoiled snot but thats ok, she gets just as much attention as she always did.

Ok so I bought a few toys for me that came from "Santa" I bought a planner and a joiner. I was thinking that the cost of all the stripper I buy it would pay for the planner. As long as what I need "stripped" is less than 10" wide I am ok. I still need the stripper but the planner is much quicker.

Here is a stack of trim needing stripped.

And a pile run through the planner.

And below is the wood primed and repainted with 4 coats of gloss white. I had a guy at work ask me why I was redoing all the woodwork and why didn't I buy new trim to replace the old? I thought I was gonna smack him. In reality I should be smacked in the head, but I just cannot throw away 80 + year old wood in the trash to replace with press wood. This pine is really neat, hard and has a great yellow look to it. To bad I have to paint it.
Here is the final look of the refurbed trim around the kitchen window and the door leading to the living/dinning room.

Bummer

Not house related, but home related. Sugar had a seizure Saturday night, actually Sunday morning. So the weekend was kind of a bummer. Poor girl. She is such a good dog and to see her go through something like that really sucks, totally broke my heart. I laid with her on the floor a while and then about 2:30 in the morning I took her into the bedroom and let her sleep with me on the bed the rest of the night. Very strange, we had a pretty laid back day so there wasn't anything stress full that I exposed her to. She was just laying there, I was talking to her and bam! she had a look of total panic and a "dad please help me!" then she got the shakes and went rigid. So I am wondering if she hasn't had more during the past nights, because she really hasn't been eating to much. I don't leave her alone and take her to "grand ma's" while I am at work or go someplace where I just can't take her. Other than that she is always with someone and watched except at night when she sleeps in front of the fireplace. I guess a trip to the the vet is due, maybe we can get her on some medication.

Just an update for those rabid followers of mine. It looks like I got the leaks stopped in the basement foundation. The cold weather helped with stemming the flow. So if there is a good reason for below zero weather, stopping the leaks is good reason. Now I am bracing for the gas bill.

Comments, for whatever reason. I do have comments turned on for this blog but they just don't seem to be working. I am thinking it is the template I am using. Not being very patient when it comes to software applications and being more of a hardware guy, I have to take trying to fix the comments in doses. At the top right of the page is my profile information and if you begin to feel warm, tingly, and the overwhelming urge to email me you can. Be nice though, I am sensitive. (hehehe)

Prancer? Dancer? Donner? Blitzen? Rudolf???

No this is my apprentice or aka Princess Sugar getting ready for Christmas. My mom found these antlers in her Christmas "stuff" today and stuck them on Sugar when I stopped by after work.

There is a small back story to this. Sugar gets dropped off every morning at Grand Ma's house and picked up every night after work. So what those two (Mom and Sugar) get into through out the day is known only to them. Mom never said a word when I walked in and it took a few minutes to see Sugar sitting there looking like; "what the hell is going on?" and "please help me" Then, when I wanted a picture, the forlorn look turned into; oh! oh! ok this is cool, my chest is getting scratched, oh yea! what fake antlers? oh yeah! Dad what are you doing here?

She is such good sport and will do or tolerate anything for attention. She is a groovy dog.

Revenge Of The Sith

Ok so there are no Sith running about in the house this week, unlike the blowfly infestation at The Devil Queen. But that is what I am watching (Revenge of the Sith) and watching my apprentice twitch as she is dreaming, must be dreaming of bones and running through the daisy fields, tonight instead of mustering up the motivation to do anything. I did get the hand rail back on the basement stairway, and put the second coat of poly on the bedroom door. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why there is no light at the top of the steps or the landing. So I guess I have to figure a light in the budget soon.

Here are some pictures of the picture rail in the bedroom. the last picture is of my wallpaper patch job in the front room.
